Derek Steingarten, a partner in the firm’s Business Law Department and a member of its Financial Services Group, focuses his practice on investment management and other financial services matters, including hedge funds, mutual funds and other investment structures, financial services merger and acquisition transactions and regulatory compliance.

Work for Clients

Mr. Steingarten has significant experience advising registered and unregistered investment advisers, banks and other institutions, as well as the independent directors of mutual funds, on a wide variety of financial services matters. He has particular expertise with public and private investment vehicles, including mutual funds, onshore and offshore hedge funds, CDOs and other structures. Mr. Steingarten also advises clients regarding complex regulatory compliance issues that impact asset management businesses. His transactional practice involves assisting financial services firms as they negotiate and implement corporate transactions, including management buyouts, stock and asset sales, debt and equity financings, and reorganization transactions.

Professional Experience

Prior to and while attending law school, Mr. Steingarten worked for the Government of Canada within the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs. He is fluent in French and Spanish.
