Areas of Practice

Christophe Courchesne, an associate in the firm’s Environmental and Energy Practice, provides counsel to clients concerning environmental litigation, environmental aspects of corporate and real estate transactions, and compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

Work for Clients

Mr. Courchesne has advised clients on compliance and enforcement matters under the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, CERCLA, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and Massachusetts Chapter 21E. He also provides assistance on brownfields redevelopment issues and client litigation under the Clean Water Act in administrative and judicial proceedings.

Professional Activities

Mr. Courchesne is a member of the Boston and American Bar Associations. He participates in the Boston Bar Association Lawyer for a Day program in the Boston Housing Court.

Publications/Presentations

Mr. Courchesne’s most recent article is “Comprehensive approach to combat invasive species on the horizon,” which appeared in the July/August 2006 issue of Trends. He also co-authored “Chapter 21E Update: 2006” with Christopher P. Davis, which was published in conjunction with MCLE’s 2006 Environmental and Land Use Law Conference. His other publications include “‘A Suggestion of a Fundamental Nature’: Imagining a Legal Education of Solely Electives Taught as Discussions,” 29 Rutgers L. Rec. 21 (2005); and “What Regional Agenda?: Reconciling Massachusetts’ Affordable Housing Law and Environmental Protection,” 28 Harv. Envtl. L. Rev. 215 (2004), which won the Choate, Hall & Stewart Harvard Environmental Law Review Notes Competition. 

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Mr. Courchesne served as a law clerk for Justice Robert J. Cordy of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. During law school, he completed internships at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office (Environmental Crimes Strike Force), the Environmental Protection Agency Region 1, the Community Enterprise Project at the Hale & Dorr Legal Services Center, and the Conservation Law Foundation. Mr. Courchesne currently serves as an associate member of the Planning Board for the town of Grafton, Massachusetts.
